After spending over a decade in the restaurant industry, I realized that something was missing in Seattle’s culinary scene: the bold, authentic flavors of South India, especially those rooted in my hometown—Madurai. I started Madhurai Mess to bring those soulful, spice-rich recipes to our community here in Bellevue.
Seattle is home to many food lovers, but I noticed a gap when it came to real Tamil Nadu-style biryani. That’s why I chose to prepare every biryani using traditional Seeraga Samba rice, just like back home. Our Ambur Chicken Biryani and Basha Mutton Biryani quickly became customer favorites—and to my pride, local staples.
Driven by innovation and heritage, I also wanted to introduce dishes Seattle had never seen before. That’s how our signature Chicken Elai Parotta—banana leaf-wrapped, flavor-packed—and the Clay Pot Parotta were born. These fusion creations blend classic Tamil flavors with a fresh presentation, and we’re proud to be the first in Seattle to offer them.
